Choosing Love

I’ve been responding to and reflecting on all the emotions after this election. No matter what you are feeling, remember that the way we show up influences the health of our families and communities. We each have the power to uplift those around us and contribute to the greater good. We all have a gift that we were meant to share and offer our light to the world. While the bigger picture may not be in our hands, our lives and the way we choose to live each day is.

Take care of yourself. Show up as the best possible version of yourself. Ask yourself, “Am I responding with love or fear?” If it hurts someone or pins someone else as the enemy, that is fear’s presence. Racism, homophobia, and misogyny are all rooted in fear and distance us from the greater good.

Practice at Home:

Breathwork exercises help you open your lungs, ground yourself, and regulate your nervous system. In this month’s sessions I am emphasizing the power of fully opening the lungs with deep breathing. Practicing deep breathing, using all of the space in our lungs, focusing on the contraction and expansion of our diaphragm, keeps our lungs healthy. When we take the time to fully breathe in and out slowly, our body gets the signal to rest and relax.

Take a deep breath, feel your rib cage expand, hold for a count of 2, and slowly release. Repeat for a few rounds. In time, you will find that your capacity for fully filling your lungs will increase.
