Maintain Your Center

February is here and there is A LOT going on in our world. In times like these, it can be difficult to stay grounded and maintain our center. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the rollercoaster ride, sometimes a focused breathing practice can slow down the stress and anxious feelings.

Practice at Home:

The Box Breath is a quick breathing exercise to regulate your nervous system. I particularly like Box Breathing because it’s very simple to do and it can be done anywhere anytime.

To get started:

  • Inhale through the nose for 4 counts

  • Hold the breath for 4 counts

  • Exhale slowly through the mouth for 4 counts

  • Pause for 4 counts before repeating the cycle

This practice activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest rather than fight or flight), helping to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve emotional regulation. Box Breathing is particularly effective in calming the mind, enhancing concentration, and fostering a sense of control during challenging situations.
