End of Summer Energy Reset
“Your Reiki Power is like an aura, it’s a glow, and you are radiating out… no darkness can penetrate you.”
~ Hawayo Takata
It’s only August, but the new school year is already here! Summer seemed to fly by and here in San Francisco, we barely caught a glimpse of the sun. I’ve always loved taking classes and learning new things, so this August I decided to be a student again. Last week, I became certified in Reiki 1 at the SF Reiki Center. Since then, I’ve been practicing on myself, my family, and Willow, and this Friday I’ll be offering Reiki sessions at the Community Clinic.
If you’re curious about what Reiki is and how it works, here’s a little peek into this beautiful, gentle practice. Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese energy healing method that supports balance in the body, mind, and spirit. The word itself combines rei (universal life force) and ki (energy), reflecting its purpose of channeling healing energy to promote well-being. Practitioners use light touch or work just above the body to help restore the natural flow of energy.
Reiki is based on the idea that life force energy flows through all living things. When this energy becomes low or blocked—due to stress, illness, or emotional strain—we may feel depleted or unwell. A Reiki session helps clear and balance energy pathways, allowing the body’s own healing processes to work more effectively.
Many people find Reiki deeply relaxing, helping to ease stress, improve sleep, and promote a greater sense of peace. Some experience relief from physical discomfort, reduced anxiety, and more emotional clarity. Even a single session can leave you feeling refreshed, grounded, and more in tune with yourself.
Lots of love and healing energy!

Practice at Home:
You don’t need formal training to try some Reiki-inspired practices at home. Here are three simple techniques you can use anytime to bring more balance and calm into your day:
Hands Over Heart Breathing – Place both hands over your heart, close your eyes, and take slow, deep breaths. Imagine a warm light radiating from your hands into your chest, filling you with calm and compassion.
Energy Sweep – Starting at the top of your head, use your hands to lightly “sweep” down the front of your body (without touching if you prefer), imagining you are brushing away tension or heaviness. Repeat three times.
Palm Recharge – Rub your hands together briskly for 20–30 seconds until you feel warmth or tingling. Then place your hands over an area of your body that feels tense or tired, allowing the warmth to sink in.
